Thousands of people are returning to Kirkuk a day after Kurdish Peshmerga forces withdrew from the disputed oil city. The Iraqi army launched the Kirkuk operation late on Sunday to take back control of the oil fields.
The Kurdish forces left several other cities in Iraq’s northern province of Kirkuk without any confrontation as all oil facilities came under Baghdad’s control. The Peshmerga moved into Kirkuk following the offensive of Daesh terrorists in northern Iraq in 2014.
