The coalition led by the United States has killed many more civilians than terrorists did over the past three years in Syria. This is according to Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem. Addressing the UN General Assembly on Saturday, Muallem also slammed the “international community’s silence” over the crimes committed by the US-led coalition in Syria, arguing that any foreign military presence without the approval of the government in Damascus constitutes an act of occupation and a flagrant violation of international law.
Talking to Press TV, Ken Stone, with Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War, said Muallem’s comments revealed the truth of war in Syria.
“I read the foreign minister’s speech at the United Nations and I have to say that truer words were never spoken at the General Assembly,” Stone underlined.
“He said quite clearly and correctly that this is all a hoax, because the terrorists who operate in Syria, the al-Nusra, al-Qaeda, and the ISIS [Daesh] terrorists that operate in that country could not exist, could not operate without the backing, the support, the coordination, the funding, and the arming by the United States, its NATO allies and the Arab monarchies," the analyst noted.
“The US-led coalition has been wantonly violating the sovereignty of Syria all in the name of fighting the terrorists that they themselves created.”
He further added that as long as Washington excludes itself as an exceptional country which can act beyond the UN Charter and international law, there would be no peace in the world.
The United States is operating under Trump as it did under Obama and Bush and Clinton under the supposition that it is exceptional, Stone said.
“The international law does not apply to the United States. Respect for borders is not a condition for the United States. Sovereignty is not important for the United States unless it affects the sovereignty of the United States. So, the United States goes ahead and intervenes militarily all over the world and threatens the world even right on the floor of the United Nations General Assembly in violation of the UN Charter,” he concluded.
The United States and its allies have been bombarding what they call Daesh positions inside Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from the Damascus government or a UN mandate. They also support some groups, such as the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces, claiming that they help them in their fight against Daesh terrorists. Damascus has repeatedly voiced its opposition to the operations of the coalition.
