Iranian journalist Iraj Babahaji, considered to be one of the Islamic Republic’s best football writers to grace the print media, has been laid to rest in the Luminaries' Section of Behesht-e Zahra, Iran’s largest cemetery located in southern Tehran.
The burial was attended by hundreds of mourners, including Iranian football coaches Abdolsamad Marfavi and Hamid Reza Estili, Former President of Football Association of Iranian Club Azizollah Mohammadi, President of the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran Mehdi Taj, family members, friends, former colleagues, sports journalists, among others on Saturday.
Babahaji died of heart attack in Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Hospital on Thursday. He was 47.
The late sports journalist was working for Persian-language Gol daily sports newspaper.
Babahaji started his career nearly two decades ago, and long wrote articles and commentaries for Iran Varzeshi sports newspaper and Iranian sports sites.
