US Congress against Russia

Already tense relations between the United States and Russia seem set for further deterioration. The US Congress has approved new sanctions against Russia over its alleged hacking of last year’s presidential election in America. The senate overwhelmingly passed the sanctions bill on Thursday with strong support from Democrats and Trump’s fellow Republicans. The legislation will now go to US president Donald Trump to be signed, which all indications are that he will sign it.

Trump's gaffe on Hezbollah

US President Donald Trump this week hosted Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri.  Trump in his remarks after meeting Hariri praised Lebanon for its efforts to guard its borders against Daesh and other terrorist groups. But he included one party among the list of adversaries with which Lebanon is not fighting and is actually a member of Hariri’s governing coalition.  Trump’s mentioning of Hezbollah as a group with which the Lebanese government is fighting quickly caught the attention of the media. Most saw this as a serious gaffe on the part of the US president. And from a president that has moved to the White House from a business background, making such mistakes may not be too big a surprise unless some ulterior motives are involved.
