Iranian sportsmen have continued to demonstrate admirable athletic skills at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in England, and scooped two more medals to raise the Islamic Republic’s total medal count to 14 at the international event.

On Friday evening, 39-year-old Alireza Mokhtari Hemami thrilled the spectators at Olympic Stadium in London, and recorded a throw of 8.35 meters in the final of men's shot put F53 competitions, and snatched the gold medal.

Scot Severn from the United States marked 8.13 meters to receive the silver.

Asadollah Azimi, another shot putter from Iran, won the bronze medal with his best throw of 7.96 meters.

The 2017 World Para Athletics Championships started in in London on July 14, and will conclude on July 23.

It is the 8th edition of the event, which was formerly known as the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics World Championship prior to 2017, and features 213 medal events.
