Iran kumite teams claim top spots in Asian Karate Championships

Iranian men’s and women’s national kumite teams have put a fairly commendable end to their campaigns at the 14th Senior Karate-do Asian Championships and 16th Cadet and Junior Karate-do Asian Championships in Kazakhstan, and claimed the festive top spots at the conclusion of the tournament.

On Sunday, Iranian karate practitioners subdued their Saudi opponents 3-0 in the final team kumite contests, and snatched the gold medal. The Iranian team consisted of Zabihollah Poursheib, Mahdi Khodabakhshi, Sajjad Ganjzadeh and Bahman Asgari. 

The Iranian women’s outfit, which included Hamideh Abbasali, Fatemeh Chalaki, Delaram Dousti and Rosita Alipour, also landed in the first position of the chart following a 2-0 victory over the Chinese Taipei team in the final team kumite competitions.

The 14th Senior Karate-do Asian Championships and 16th Cadet and Junior Karate-do Asian Championships started in the Kazakh capital city of Astana on July 13, and wrapped up on July 16, 2017.

A total of 660 male and female karate practitioners from 27 Asian countries, including Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Uzbekistan, took part in the event.
