North Koreans have held an honorary concert, among other ceremonies, to celebrate the successful launch of their country’s first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The concert was one of many events organized in North Korea to celebrate the July 4 launch of Hwasong-14 Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), which Pyongyang said was capable of reaching anywhere in the world.
The concert was held in honor of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday.
Clips of the concert aired by North Korean television on Monday showed the guests at the concert, including many who were dressed in military uniform, repeatedly cheering and applauding Kim for the success.
US intelligence agencies said the missile tested on July 4 was most likely a new ICBM with an estimated range of 5,500 kilometers and capable of hitting Alaska.
North Korea, which has been under huge international pressure and sanctions over its missile and nuclear programs, sees the country’s missile and nuclear arsenal as a strong deterrent against US aggression.
