The national Iranian men’s volleyball team has lost to Poland in its second fixture at the third week of the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World League to miss chances of reaching the final round of the multinational tournament.
On Saturday, the Iranian squad faced the hosts in a Pool H1 - Group 1 fixture at Atlas Arena in the central Polish city of Łódź, and conceded a 3-0 defeat.
Iranian volleyball players did not put in convincing performances throughout the first two sets, and ceded them 25-17 and 25-18 to the European side.
Even though Persians sought to return to the game in the third set, their efforts to overcomes the Poles did not yield as the hosts took the set by 25 points to 22.
“First of all, I want to congratulate Poland on the 3-0 victory. Poland were better than us in all elements. We can say we did not play good, but we play as good as opponent let us. In the last set, we had an opportunity, but Poland put pressure on serve, especially to the second zone. I don't want to speak about our problems, because the result is clear,” Iran’s head coach Igor Kolakovic said after the match.
Iranian captain Saied Marouf said, “I don't know what to say because we made too many mistakes. Our opponents were better in every element. Only in the third set we played our volleyball. Poland had a good day, they serve well and we had problem with reception.”
“Today we were eager to play a very different game than the last time. I am very happy that my players were focused and stayed in the game and would like to congratulate them. It was visible that they want to play a different match and of course I am glad that we earned these three points,” Poland’s head coach Ferdinando De Giorgi commented.
