Turkey siding with Qatar, eyeing long-term gains
The Persian Gulf crisis involving Qatar and its Arab adversaries has taken a new turn after turkey threw its full weight behind Doha. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned the Saudi-led blockade on Qatar in the strongest possible terms saying he will stand by its ally. Erdogan said while addressing the Turkish parliament: "It is neither humane nor Islamic to attempt to isolate a country's people in every area from food, to drink, to travel, to commerce, to worship."

Neighbors worried about KRG push for independence
Turkey earlier this week strongly criticized a plan by Iraq's Kurdistan region to hold a referendum on independence.  Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a speech to his Justice and Development Party earlier this week described the plan as a mistake. Erdogan also warned that an independent Kurdistan would jeopardize Turkey’s territorial integrity.  Such remarks are seen as an early warning to the Kurds in Iraq that their attempt to establish a sovereign state is already drawing the ire of Ankara.
