In India, attacks on Muslims and other religious minorities –under the pretext of protecting cows- have dramatically increased ever since the right-wing Hindu nationalist party came to power. As Munawar Zaman reports from New Delhi, the violence has seen an escalation. That especially after last month’s appointment of a hard-line Hindu religious leader as chief minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh, which is home to much of the country's Muslim-dominated meat industry.
