The Iranian men’s national beach volleyball A team has got off to a great start at the AVC Beach Volleyball Tour, “2nd Satun Pak Bara Open” (M & W), in Thailand, and beat the Qatari side at the continental sporting event.
On Saturday, the Iranian pair of Rahman Raoufi and Bahman Salemi Injehboroun claimed the first set of their opening Pool A fixture against top seeds Julio Donascimento and Ahmed Tijan Janko from Qatar A 21-19.
The Iranians, however, lost momentum in the second set and conceded it by 15 points to 20.
The Iranian beach volleyball players bounced back in the third period, and took it 15-12.
“Firstly, I would like to thank the organizing committee for hosting this tournament impressively. I have been impressed by the Thai hospitality. They are very nice and friendly. Thailand is a beautiful country and we are happy to be here. Today, we played well and we are happy to win this match. Against Maldives tomorrow, it is always tough for us no matter with whom we will play, but we will try our best to finish at top of the pool to advance to the next round,” Raoufi said after the match.
Earlier, the Iranian men’s national beach volleyball B team had lost its match against Indonesia A in straight sets 16-21 and 18-21.
The AVC Beach Volleyball Tour, “2nd Satun Pak Bara Open” (M & W), kicked off in Thailand’s southern town of Satun on April 8, and will finish on April 11, 2017.
