Iraqi Kurds have raised their flag at the provincial council in the northern city of Kirkuk. They insist that the move is in response to a demand by the majority of people there. Kurds also say the move will not affect the current co-existence among different communities in Kirkuk. But, Arabs and Turkmens in the city have opposed the Kurdish move.
