In this episode of Food for Thought, Professor Tariq Ramadan talks about contest for our rights and racism in different societies.
Tariq says: We have to stand up contest. We need to resist against some of the decisions are taken against our rights. For example there are various people who are passed away in the jails and no one knows what happen under the authority of police. We have the right to contest. Because our contestation is the dignity of our country. Without this, we have no dignity.
The other problems that our societies are facing is racism. For example in the United States there is a movement of Blacks Lives Matter, they are saying our life matters for centuries. There is a problem in the whole concept of power within the American society. It is a systemic problem we have. Racism against black people is a reality in Canada, racisms against Latin American people is a reality and even in the United States of America it happened against the Chinese and Japanese. And now we are adding racism to racism and we have and we had anti-semitism. It is not over, that’s the reality. Add to this Islamophobia now. This might be seen new to Muslims but the system is very old. It is a systemic reality. These are the problems that we are facing in our societies today.
