Saudi-Takfiri alliance source of terrorism in Mideast: Analyst

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has urged Saudi Arabia and its allies to “turn back from their destructive policies in the past and make up for their mistakes” concerning their support for terrorist groups in the Middle East. Ali Shamkhani also pointed to Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir’s recent visit to Iraq, saying that no real change in Saudi approach has been witnessed.

The alliance between the House of Saud and the extreme anti-Muslim approach of the Wahhabi Takfiris “is really the source of terrorism” in the Middle East, says Kevin Barrett, author and Middle East expert from Madison in the US state of Wisconsin.

“Most Takfiri terrorism all over the world is very much linked to Saudi Arabia and we haven’t seen any actual radical change in that,” Barrett told Press TV on Tuesday.

He noted that the Wahhabi-inspired terrorism has been used as an instrument by the Western and Zionist empire to attack Muslims and to prevent the Islamic Awakening from spreading through the region.

Saudi top diplomat paid a rare visit to Baghdad on Saturday as the first such visit by a high-ranking Saudi official since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Barrett explained, “Iraq is in shambles today not only because of the US invasion and the massive destruction inflicted on Iraq by the occupation, which ultimately was of course carried out on behalf of Israel, but also [because] the Saudis have been complicit [and a] major factor in the rise of Daesh.”

Saudi Arabia is accused of providing material and ideological support to extremist groups, including Daesh, which is wreaking havoc particularly in Syria and Iraq.
