The Pakistani capital, Islamabad, and other main areas in the country are under tight security following a series of militant attacks in recent weeks.
Security forces are on high alert, extra checkpoints have been set up and patrols intensified in the capital, police officer Zahid Awan said on Monday.
Pakistani security forces were first put on high alert following a recent spate of deadly terrorist attacks wreaking havoc across the South Asian country. Pakistani Taliban and Daesh terrorists have been behind the string of attacks in recent weeks.
Daesh, which has recently emerged in Pakistan, targeted a shrine in the country’s southern province of Sindh earlier this month, leaving scores of people dead and hundreds more wounded.
The government responded with an intensified crackdown on militant hideouts and support networks.
Government spokesman Mohammad Ahmad Khan said Pakistani paramilitary forces have been conducting raids in Punjab Province, and an army statement said that nearly 600 suspects have been detained in recent days.
Pakistani authorities say terrorists infiltrate from Afghanistan into Pakistan to carry out terrorist attacks.
“The enemy is taking advantage of the turmoil in Afghanistan to launch terrorist attacks on Pakistan’s soil,” a foreign office spokesman said last week.
Afghanistan, too, accused Pakistan of allowing militants to be stationed in border regions and launch bloody attacks that threaten regional stability.
