Trump’s appointees to cause conflict in US: Analyst

“Unless Trump moderates the policies of his appointees the next four years will be fraught with conflict and tension,” Dennis Etler says.

US President-elect Donald Trump’s picks for different posts in his administration would bring about “conflict and tension” in the country, says a political analyst.

Dennis Etler made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Wednesday when asked about Trump’s pick of Senator Jeff Sessions for attorney general.

Trump’s appointee has met opposition by African American civil rights activists and law school professors, who condemned Sessions’ history of controversial positions on race, immigration and criminal justice.

Etler said that “Sessions will do all in his power to roll back the gains made in voter registration by Blacks and Latinos. He will actively work for the deportation of illegal immigrants regardless of their circumstances.”

He went on to say that “over half the US population opposes his outlook. Trump was elected not to bring hard-core reactionaries to the seat of power but to address the populist issues of job lose and lack of opportunity for millions of Americans.”

“Resistance to Sessions and other Trump appointees will be framed by Trump's supporters as attempts by liberals to sabotage Trump's mandate. There is however no mandate. And while liberals will support activists who protest Trump's policies, the nature of those policies has generated opposition from large segments of the population who have no organic allegiance to the Democratic Party.”

He also said that “Sessions and other Trump appointees will generate opposition within a broad spectrum of the population especially those who see him and others as threats to the progress they have made over the last 50 years. That will in turn generate a backlash amongst Trump's supporters against his opponents.”

“Unless Trump moderates the policies of his appointees, the next four years will be fraught with conflict and tension,” Etler concluded.

Trump has come under fire for appointing billionaires and insiders in his administration, despite his promises during the campaign for the 2016 election.
