Indonesian president arrives in Iran for talks

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has arrived in Tehran on an official visit to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.

Widodo is heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation in his trip to Tehran which started on Tuesday.

He was welcomed by Iranian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi and plans to hold meetings with President Hassan Rouhani and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

Speaking to IRNA prior to his departure for Tehran, the Indonesian president described his visit as important and said Iran can play a pivotal role in promoting dialogue among member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in different sectors and at various levels.

He said the two regional organizations must be encouraged to draw up a practical roadmap for taking genuine steps particularity in the economic sector.
