Clinton team to partake in Wisconsin recount, possible future ones

The campaign of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton will be participating in a recount of votes set to take place in the battleground state of Wisconsin, which she narrowly lost in the US 2016 presidential election.

The recount has been requested by Green Party nominee Jill Stein but the Clinton campaign counsel, Marc Elias, said Saturday that her team would be legally represented in Wisconsin to be able to monitor the recount.

Democrats did not ask for a recount in the state because their own investigation did not lead to any sign of hacking of voting systems, "but now that a recount has been initiated in Wisconsin, we intend to participate in order to ensure the process proceeds in a manner that is fair to all sides."

Along with Michigan and Pennsylvania, Wisconsin played a key role on Election Day resulting in victory by GOP nominee Donald Trump.

Hillary's 'BFF'

Stein (pictured above) officially requested a vote recount in the state, saying, “We are standing up for an election system that we can trust; for voting systems that respect and encourage our vote, and make it possible for all of us to exercise our constitutional right to vote.”

According to Elias, if the Green Party candidate continues the path for Michigan and Pennsylvania, the Democrats “will take the same approach in those states as well.”

Clinton won the national popular vote by more than two million ballots in the November 8 election but lost the Electoral College tally to the real estate mogul.

The Wisconsin recount is expected to begin late next week and faces a December 13 deadline.

According to Stein’s campaign website, she has so far raised $5.8 million of the $7 million needed to cover costs for recounts in the three states.

Trump blasted Stein's request, calling the recount a "scam."

"This is a scam by the Green Party for an election that has already been conceded, and the results of this election should be respected instead of being challenged and abused, which is exactly what Jill Stein is doing," he said in a statement.

Trump, who is busy filling vacancies in is administration, further added that "The people have spoken and the election is over... We must accept this result and then look to the future."

Kellyanne Conway, Trump's former campaign manager and a top adviser on his transition team, told Bloomberg that those behind the move are “a pack of sore losers,” adding, “After asking Mr. Trump and his team a million times on the trail, ‘Will HE accept the election results?’ it turns out Team Hillary and their new BFF Jill Stein can’t accept reality."
