Trump considered getting his children top security clearance

This AFP file photo shows the children of Republican presidential-elect Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump (R), Donald Trump Jr. (C) and Eric Trump (L) with their father.

US President-elect Donald Trump was considering to have his children gain top-level security clearance, according to a source from Trump’s transition team.

However, another transition official denied the report, which was first published by CBS News.

Trump did not request that this step be taken, and the Trump children have not started filling out paperwork for such clearances, according to a pool news report.

"That's not something I'm expecting right now," the transition official told the press pool.

CBS News reported Monday that Trump had asked the White House for permission to give Donald Jr., Eric and Ivanka Trump, along with his son-in-law Jared Kushner, top security clearance.

If given security clearance, the four might have access to classified government information and secure communications technology or perhaps to White House-related travel schedules.

A security clearance for the president-elect’s family would raise questions about possible conflicts of interest, considering his children's involvement in a business network Trump has arranged and called a "blind trust."

In an interview with CBS that was broadcast Sunday, Trump's children said that they would not hold any formal position in their father's administration.

Trump stunned the world by defeating heavily-favored Hillary Clinton in Tuesday's presidential election, sending the United States on a new, uncertain path.

Trump, who at 70 will be the oldest first-term US president, defeated his Democratic rival after a bitter and divisive campaign.

Since his victory, thousands of anti-trump activists have been marching in streets across the nation, dismissing the former reality TV star as president.
