Dar es Salaam, Tanzania -- People watch the supermoon rising

Different cities around the world have witnessed the largest and brightest full moon in nearly seven decades.

Residents and tourists in cities like Sydney, Bangkok, and Tokyo have seen the brightest moon in almost 69 years. During the event, the moon appears up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than an average full moon.

A Supermoon usually takes place every one to two years. It happens when the full Moon coincides with its closest point to Earth during its monthly orbit.
