An Iranian official says the Israeli regime seeks to weaken Muslim nations by pitting them against one another.

“The Zionist regime has always pursued a policy of weakening Muslims and creating rifts among Islamic faiths,” said Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Iranian parliament speaker's special advisor on international affairs.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Khalid Qaddoumi, the representative of the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Iranian official called for unity and vigilance among Muslims in the face of their enemies' plots, adding that the US and Israel must be held accountable for the growing number of terrorist groups in the Middle East region.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian nation.

“Iran supports any measure aimed at restoring the rights of the Palestinian nation, and defending [our] Palestinian brothers has always been one of the country's fundamental foreign policies," he added.

In the meeting, the Hamas official also praised Iran’s full-fledged support for the Palestinian nation.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has proved to be an advocate of the world's freedom-seeking and oppressed nations, Qaddoumi added.

He stressed that Israel was taking advantage of the regional crises for its own gains, and warned against efforts aimed at sidelining the Palestinian issue.
