The liberation of the Iraqi city of Mosul from Daesh terrorists is a very “powerful momentum, a sea change, and a paradigmatic shift” which will push back the foreign invaders out of the theatre of operations, says a former US army officer.
“Now is the chance for everything to change and the momentum to shift over to Mosul and then continue through Mosul to assist [Syrian President] Assad and then push down back into Saudi Arabia,” Scott Bennett told Press TV.
He also stated the Iraqis need to be the ones who are perceived as the “liberators” of the city, adding that they need to do it at least symbolically in coordination with Russia, China and Iran who are the true allies of Iraq.
He went on to say Iraq should not allow the United States to take any “forward leading position” in the Mosul operation because it will undermine it.
The United States is allied with Saudi Arabia and Saudi Arabia has been funding, financing, pushing and supplying the men for a lot of these ISIS (Daesh) mercenaries. So Saudi Arabia is as guilty as the ISIS components and therefore symbolically the United States is no friend with Iraq. It has no interest in the long-term benefits of Iraq,” he added.
However, he said, Iraq can still symbolically make a gesture towards the United States to include it in the operation but it should not be deceived by Washington which has been a “dismal failure” in this psychological warfare campaign.
Iraqi forces have made major advances in their battle to liberate the city of Mosul from Daesh. The operations are advancing from three directions, namely the south, the east, and the northeast of the city.
Bennett also noted this is a “propaganda war” and there are a lot of lies and liars. He also mentioned Iraq needs to ally with the truth and the truth tellers so far have only been Russia, Iran and China.
Violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh launched its offensive in June 2014, and seized territory. Iraqi army soldiers and fighters from allied Popular Mobilization Units are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.
Over the last few months, Iraq has been preparing for the assault on Daesh in Mosul, which slipped into the hands of the terrorists in the summer of 2014. Government forces have managed to recapture all the other places that Daesh had seized, with the last major one being the city of Fallujah, which was liberated in late June.
