Iranian wushu practitioners have won five medals, including two gold ones, at the sixth edition of World Junior Wushu Championships in Bulgaria.

The Iranian team finished runner-up in the prestigious tournament.

On Friday, Iranian sportsman Yousef Sabri demonstrated a remarkable performance in the last contest of men’s 70-kilogram weight category of the Sanda (sparring) discipline at Mladost Sports Hall in the southeastern coastal city of Burgas, and overcame Turkish representative Yunus Emre Osmanoglu to clinch the gold medal.

Mohammad Mehdi Garshasbi prevailed over his Turkish rival Enes Gezer in men’s 75-kilogram class of the Sanda, and collected another gold medal for Iran.

Hamid Reza Sahandi, though, conceded defeat against his Chinese opponent and received the silver medal of men’s 60-kilogram weight category.

Earlier, Iran’s female wushu artist Fatemeh Vaisi managed to win a bronze medal in women’s 52-kilogram category.

Ramin Afraz participated in men’s 65-kilogram category of the Sanda, and won a bronze medal for Iran.

Sanda, sometimes called Sanshou or Lei tai, has all the combat aspects of wushu, but includes many more grappling techniques.

The sixth edition of World Junior Wushu Championships started in Burgas on September 25 and will finish on October 3.
