Iranian athletes awarded four medals in Asian Beach Games

Iranian sportsmen have kept up their fine performance in the south-central Vietnamese city of Da Nang, where the fifth edition of Asian Beach Games is underway.

Muay Thai boxer Masoud Minaei defeated Truong Quoc Hung from the host nation 10-9 in the final bout of men’s light middleweight 67-71 kilogram category, and won the gold medal.

Earlier in the day, Seyed Kaveh Soleymani Safakhaneh, another Iranian Muay Thai boxer, managed to beat his Kazakh opponent Zhanibek Kanatbayev in the final bout of men's welterweight 63.5-67 kilogram class, and grabbed the gold medal.

Also on Monday, Sobhan Taherkhani took part in men's long jump competitions, and leapt 7 meters and 35 centimeters to clinch a bronze medal.

The three medals came a day after Amirhossein Khademian overcame Alexander Foronda Lim Marc from the Philippines in the Newaza men's minus 69-kilogram division, and earned a bronze medal.

Iranian athletes have taken their tally to six medals at the fifth edition of Asian Beach Games, ranking sixth in the ongoing event.

Thai athletes are in the lead with a total of 34 medals, followed by the Vietnamese who have fetched 39 medals altogether.

Up to now, Thai athletes have bagged 15 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze medals. The Vietnamese have won 9 gold, 12 silver and 18 bronze medals so far.

China is in the third place with 5 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals.

The 5th edition of Asian Beach Games opened in Da Nang, Vietnam, on September 24, and will run until October 3.
