Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • Russia says all its jets have left an Iranian base which they used to carry out airstrikes against Daesh in Syria. Iran earlier said Russia’s airstrikes from the airbase in its Hamedan province have stopped for now. Tehran says such operation was part of a joint anti-terror campaign.
  • Turkey says Daesh must be completely pushed out from the Syrian border region. Foreign minister Mevlut Chavushoglu said Ankara will continue to support the fight against the terrorist group. Daesh is blamed for a deadly bomb attack in the city of Gaziantep in southeastern Turkey.
  • Israeli authorities have given the go-ahead for planning the construction of more settler units in the city of al-Khalil, also known as Hebron. Tel Aviv has defied international calls to end its settlement expansions in the occupied Palestinian territories. The settlements are illegal under international law.
  • Britain's Labour Party has started voting to decide if Jeremy Corbyn will remain the leader of the country’s main opposition party. He is pitted against parliament member Owen Smith in the vote. The Brexit vote weakened Corbyn's position in his party, with many criticizing his performance during the campaign.
  • India’s paramilitary troops kill another pro-independence activist in Indian-controlled Kashmir. The man died after being hit by a tear gas canister during clashes with the Indian force. Dozens of people were also injured. Kashmir has been on security lockdown since the death of a prominent pro-independence leader in July.
  • Auto giant Volkswagen has halted production at six plants in Germany over a legal dispute with two key suppliers. The spare part suppliers say Volkswagen broke off several contracts with no prior notice or compensation. They have demanded compensation for alleged loss of revenue.
  • Over 400 flights have been grounded and trains delayed as typhoon Mindulle hits Japan. Airlines across the country canceled 387 flights due to heavy rains and strong winds. The Meteorological Agency issued heavy rain, flood and storm warnings across large areas of Japan's eastern coast.
