The Palestinian Authority is to take legal action against Britain over the 1917 Belfour Declaration. The announcement quickly hit the headlines in the Arab world and beyond.

But what is this controversial declaration and why is it so important? The story is about Britain’s support for the creation of Israel and it all began during World War I. Under the declaration, the then UK foreign secretary promised London’s support for the creation of a national home for Zionists.

Police brutality against African Americans has once again returned to the limelight this past week. The Baltimore prosecutor said she had dropped criminal charges against the remaining officers in the trial of Freddie Gray. Gray was an African American man who died in police custody last year and his death immediately triggered riots across the US. Concerns are now rising in the US that the acquittal of the police officers in his case could soon spark new protests.
