Clinton pledges to fight systematic racism in US

    • Hillary Clinton has criticized what she called systemic racism in the US criminal justice system and pledged to fight it to the end. She made the comment during her nomination speech at the Democratic National Convention. Clinton also urged voters to embrace four more years of a Democratic White House.
    • US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has reacted to his rival Hillary Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. Trump slammed Clinton’s policy when she was secretary of state, saying she unleashed wars that led to destruction, terrorism and the creation of Daesh.
    • Two police officers have been shot in the US city of San Diego. Police say the condition of the victims is unknown. One suspect has been arrested but police are still searching for other potential suspects. Officials have ordered residents in the area to shelter in place.
    • A Turkish prosecutor has accused the CIA and FBI of being behind the country’s failed coup. The allegation has been included in an indictment prepared against opposition figure Fethullah Gulen, who’s accused of masterminding the coup attempt. The document says the CIA and FBI have provided training for Gulen followers.
    • A report by a US government watchdog on Afghanistan says the government has lost five percent of the land under its control to the Taliban between January and May this year. The report said the Afghan government’s control across the nation has diminished to 65 percent.
    • Saudi warplanes have bombarded Yemen’s Hajjah province, killing at least five civilians. Three women were among those killed. More than 95-hundred Yemenis, mostly civilians, have lost their lives since the Saudi kingdom unleashed a devastating war on its Arab neighbor in March 2015.
    • Forces loyal to Libya’s national unity government have liberated more areas in the port city of Sirte as part of their offensive to fully drive out Daesh terrorists from the area. The government-backed forces are searching streets to find and defuse explosive devices planted by Daesh.
    • Medical charity Doctors Without Borders has called on the UN to declare northeast Nigeria a top emergency. The international aid group says hundreds of thousands of people are trapped in areas that cannot be reached by humanitarian workers and are in dire need of food and medical care.
