Here is a round-up of global news developments:
- Syrian government forces have managed to liberate several villages from Nusra Front terrorists in the western province of Hama. Elsewhere in the province of Dayr al-Zawr, Syria’s military inflicted heavy casualties on Daesh terrorists during clashes in one of the villages near the provincial capital.
- Syria has said that Israeli drones have pounded a residential building in the Golan Heights. It added the attacks were aimed at boosting the morale of terrorist groups in Syria, who have suffered heavy losses recently.
- An Israeli human rights group says Tel Aviv has razed more Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank this year than it did nearly every other year in the last decade. B’Tselem has reported that Israel demolished 168 homes in the occupied territories from January to the end of June this year.
- Two Saudi officers have been killed in a helicopter crash in the Yemeni province of Ma’rib. The helicopter reportedly crashed due to the bad weather conditions. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has confirmed that five of its soldiers were killed in clashes in the volatile Najran region bordering Yemen.
- The Turkish government has agreed on drafting a new constitution in the wake of the mid-July failed coup. Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the decision came following a meeting between President Rejeb Tayyip Erdogan and two opposition leaders on Monday.
- Rescue workers have found the bodies of around 87 refugees washed up on the Libyan shores since the weekend. The bodies began washing up on the beach of the northern city of Sabratha on Friday. Forty-one bodies were found on Saturday and the rest were recovered later.
- Firefighters in Japan have said at least 19 people lost their lives in a stabbing attack outside the capital Tokyo. The incident took place in a center for the handicapped people in the city of Saga-mihara. Over two dozen were also injured, some of them critically.
- Democrats have opened their convention in the U-S city of Philadelphia. Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton is set to be officially announced as the Democratic Party’s nominee for November presidential election. The inauguration is overshadowed by leaked emails that showed the party leaders favored Clinton over her rival Bernie Sanders.
