Turkish citizens of all political leanings responded to the call of the country’s main opposition Republican People’s Party, CHP, to hold a rally in support of democracy at Istanbul’s Taksim Square. All of the CHP’s 133 members of parliament as well as many MPs from other parties took part in the demo.

The march was held as Amnesty International slammed the Turkish officials for what it said torturing the people the government has detained since the abortive coup on July 15.
