US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is trying to sow discord among supporters of the rival Democratic Party by urging Bernie Sanders' backers to rage against Hillary Clinton’s running mate, Tim Kaine.

“The Bernie Sanders supporters are furious with the choice of Tim Kaine, who represents the opposite of what Bernie stands for. Philly fight?” Trump said in a Tweet in a bid to cheer on the likelihood of a divided Democratic convention in Philadelphia next week, the Hill reported Saturday.

Clinton announced the selection of the Virginia senator as her running mate on Friday amid reports that he was not the first choice of liberals in the Democratic Party for numerous reasons.

For instance, Kaine has defended abortion restrictions, backed fast-track authority for a controversial Pacific Rim trade deal, and joined the effort to deregulate some of the nation’s largest banks just last week.

“Tim Kaine is, and always has been, owned by the banks. Bernie supporters are outraged, was their last choice. Bernie fought for nothing!” said the controversial GOP presidential candidate in another tweet.

Trump has persistently attempted to incite infighting among Democrats in an effort to attract their voters. He has also described the Democratic primary as “rigged” against Sanders, insisting that many of his backers would turn to him instead of Clinton.

The Republican nominee further tried to divide the Democrats by claiming on Saturday that Clinton “hates” Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, another favorite of the pro-Sanders crowd.

The presidential campaign of the New York businessman also attacked Kaine on ethical grounds Friday night.

“While serving in government, Kaine has taken tends of thousands of dollars in freebies — more than $160,000 in fact — on free vacations, free clothes, and free tickets,” Trump campaign aide, Jason Miller, said in a statement.

“If you think Crooked Hillary and Corrupt Kaine are going to change anything in Washington, it’s just the opposite.”
