Iranian basketball players have managed to book a place in the final fixture of the second edition of the Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship in Macau, following a sweeping victory over China B squad.
On Saturday morning, the Payame Noor University outfit, which is representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the six-day tournament, notched up a remarkable 21-8 win against the Chinese side at the main gym of the University of Macau.
The Iranian basketball players had defeated Sri Lanka 21-5 and Hong Kong 21-9 in their quarterfinal matches the previous day.
They are scheduled to play against Macau in the title clash of the tournament later on Saturday.
The second edition of the Asian University 3x3 Basketball Championship started in Macau on July 19 and will finish on July 23.
A total of 22 teams from 12 countries and regions, including Brunei, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, and Thailand are competing in men’s and women’s contests, as well as the individual contest of men’s dunk and women’s shootout.
The 3x3 (pronounced three on three) basketball is a form of the game played three a side on one hoop.
The basketball discipline is currently being promoted and structured by FIBA, and the highest tournament for national 3x3 teams is FIBA 3x3 World Championships.
