A Palestinian man shot and wounded by Israelis south of the occupied West Bank has succumbed to his injuries.
Local media said Tuesday that Mustafa Baradiya died in the hospital during the late hours of Monday after he was shot by Israeli forces near al-Arroub refugee camp, north of the city of al-Khalil (Hebron).
The 51-year-old was a mathematics teacher working in the city of Bethlehem. He was originally from a village north of al-Khalil, a city at the heart of a recent wave of violence in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Baradiya was hospitalized in Shaare Zedek health center in Jerusalem al-Quds on Monday. He was in a critical condition, officials said, adding that he succumbed to injuries 10 minutes after he was transferred to the intensive care unit.
Israel claims two Israeli soldiers were slightly injured when Baradiya carried out an attack with a screwdriver at a military checkpoint on Route 60 near al-Khalil. Israeli authorities also claim the forces responded to the attack by shooting and injuring Baradiya in the abdomen.
Baradiya's brother Ibrahim was also killed in April with Israelis claiming that he had carried out an attack on an Israeli soldier slightly wounding him.
More than 220 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since the beginning in October 2015 of a fresh wave of Israeli attacks on the Palestinians in the West Bank. The violence erupted after Palestinians accused Israelis of trying to change the status quo of al-Aqsa Mosque, a highly-revered place for the Muslims located in East al-Quds.
More than a dozen Israeli soldiers and settlers have also been killed in the course of the clashes.
