- French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has been booed and jeered in Nice as he attends a memorial service for the victims of last week's deadly terror attack in the city. The crowd also called for the government’s resignation as Valls and other local politicians left the scene of the Bastille Day carnage.
- EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini has warned the Turkish government against taking any post-coup measures that would damage the constitutional order. Mogherini also noted that Turkey’s democracy needs protection for the sake of the country itself. She made the statement upon arrival at an EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels.
- The US president has urged all Americans to avoid words or actions that would deepen quote-divisions in the country. Barack Obama criticized the use of inflammatory rhetoric and careless accusations. His comments came hours after a gunman killed three police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
- US Secretary of State John Kerry has called for a political transition in Syria, where government forces and foreign-backed militants have been fighting for more than five years. He said the US and Russia have agreed on taking some steps such as increasing efforts against al-Qaeda-linked Nusrah Front terrorists.
- Israel continues with the demolition of Palestinian structures in the occupied territories: This time targeting a house in the West Bank village of Qabatiya. Tel Aviv accuses the owner of being involved in a deadly attack on an Israeli paramilitary police officer back in February.
- A shooting rampage in Kazakhstan has left four people, three of them police, dead. Gunmen have opened fire on a police station and the KNB Security Police Department in central Almaty. Five officers have been wounded. Residents have been advised to stay indoors.
- Libyan unity government forces have clashed with the Daesh Takfiri terrorists in the city of Sirte. Forces loyal to the UN-backed Government of National Unity have reportedly suffered losses in their battle to retake the city from terrorists.
- China says it's closing off a part of the South China Sea to conduct a series of military drills this week. The announcement comes days after The Hague-based Permanent Court of Arbitration ruled that China’s claims to much of the South China Sea have no legal basis.
