Oldest Egyptian writing on papyrus displayed for first time

Oldest Egyptian papyrus.

During the ancient times, long before there were textbooks or newspapers, the Egyptians designed their own papers from a plant called papyrus to write on. Now, some of the earliest writings are being put on display in a museum in Cairo.

The items were found inside caves in the town of Zafarana in 2013. And they are the oldest ever to be discovered, dating back to four-thousand-500 years ago.

A total of six out of the 30 discovered papyruses are on display at the museum. They contain information about the daily life of the pyramid workers who transformed building materials from the Red Sea port of Giza and the distribution of food portions for workers.
