Alexander Grushko says NATO is trying to turn Eastern Europe into a military zone. NATO says its planned deployment in Eastern Europe is to deter potential threats from Russia.
- The Philippines is urging China to respect a ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague that denied Beijing’s claims to the South China Sea. Manila wants to bring up the issue in the Asia-Europe summit on Friday. China says the conference is not an appropriate occasion to discuss the dispute.
- The European Commission has called on EU members to re-structure the bloc’s asylum system which it believes does not function properly. The EU’s Migration Commissioner says member states would not come up with a successful strategy unless they work together.
