Here is a round-up of global news developments:
- The Iraqi army has managed to liberate several villages from the terrorists in the northern province of Salahuddin. Officials say over five-thousand Iraqi civilians have escaped Daesh-held areas in recent days as the government forces are pushing to purge Salahuddin of the Takfiris.
- Israeli forces have shot dead a young Palestinian in the city of Netanya north of Tel Aviv. They claim the Palestinian stabbed two Israelis. Earlier on Thursday, Israeli troops killed another Palestinian after he allegedly stabbed to death an Israeli girl in the occupied West Bank.
- A report by the group of countries known as the diplomatic Quartet says Israel must stop settlement expansions in Palestinian territories. The United Nations envoy Nickolay Mladenov presented the report to the Security Council. He said Israeli construction work in the West Bank is a QUOTE negative trend that hinders peace efforts.
- The Spanish Prime Minister has begun talks with other political parties to form a cabinet after failing to win a majority in last week's elections. Mariano Rakhoy met with the head of Canaria political party to end months of political deadlock. Rakhoy needs to form a coalition in order to establish a government.
- Head of the Bank of England Mark Carney says Britain’s economic outlook has deteriorated as a result of the country’s vote to leave the European Union. Carney suggested that the central bank would probably need to pump more stimuli into Britain’s economy over the summer.
- Turkish police have detained 22 people in connection with Tuesday's deadly attack in Istanbul's main airport. Thirteen suspects were arrested in the port city including three foreigners. Nine others were detained in the city of Izmir. Officials say the attack, which killed 44 people, was planned by the Daesh leaders in Syria.
- In Italy, people have held a rally in the city of Verona to protest against the E-U sanctions against Russia following the Ukraine crisis in 20-14. Thousands of demonstrators, mostly from the agricultural sector, say the sanctions have a negative impact on Italy's position in the Russian market.
- The US Navy says six officers and three enlisted sailors are disciplined or face disciplinary action over their capture in January by Iran after they entered the Islamic Republic’s territorial waters. A U-S Navy investigation report says weak leadership, poor judgment and errors led to their embarrassing arrest.
