Cameron resigns after UK’s EU exit

  • British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced his resignation after Britons voted to leave the European Union. Cameron said he would leave office in October, adding that he could not lead the country toward the new destination. He noted that he won’t get engaged in the process of UK’s separation from the bloc.
  • Britons have voted to leave the European Union in a historic referendum. Final results show the Leave camp won with a margin of more than one-million votes. 72 percent of eligible voters participated in Thursday’s poll. The results made the British pound to plunge to a 31-year low. They also shocked global markets.
  • The leader of the UK Independence Party has called for a Brexit government. Nigel Farage warned that the European Union is dying, adding that London has left behind a failing political entity. He also warned that other EU members may follow Britain in voting to leave the European Union.

Ali Akbar Velayati said revoking the citizenship of Sheikh Isa Qassim is against international and human rights law.
  • An alliance of Kurdish and Arab fighters has entered the Daesh-held city of Manbij in northern Syria. The city was under siege by the US-backed alliance, known as the Syrian Democratic Forces, for a few weeks. Manbij connects the Turkish border to the ISIL stronghold of Raqqah.
  • A US judge has acquitted Baltimore police officer Caesar Goodson of all charges in his trial for the murder of African-American Freddie Gray in 2015. Gray was arrested for running away from police officers. He died a week later after sustaining a spinal injury while in the back of a police van.
