England have been held to a 1-all draw by Russia, in their opening group B match in Marseille, after conceding an injury time equalizer!

England enjoyed a bigger share of possession during the first 45 minutes, but had no luck in front of goal. Adam Lallana was picked-out in the box, before smashing a powerful effort into the palms of the goalkeeper as early as the 7th minute.

The Three Lions continued to push for an opener, and with some 10 minutes remaining in the 1st half, England captain Wayne Rooney rifled a volley at goal, only to be denied by the keeper once again.

Russia began the 2nd half brightly with Fyodor Smolov trying his luck from 20 yards out in the 63rd minute, but his right-footed effort missed the bottom left-hand side of Hart’s goal by inches.

Rooney was denied by a great save from keeper Akinfeev with 20 minutes remaining in the match, but England finally broke the deadlock 3 minutes later through a free-kick by Eric Dier, who swept his attempt into the top-left corner from just outside the area.

However, when it seemed that Roy Hodgson’s men were going to earn a 1-nil win, Vasili Berezutski broke England’s hearts in stoppage time by sending a looping header over Joe Hart and into the back of the net for the equalizer.
