Here is a round-up of global news developments:

  • In Syria, at least 20 people have been killed in twin bomb blasts at a holy shrine near the capital Damascus. Over a dozen others were also injured. Daesh claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack. The area has been targeted by terrorists multiple times in the past.

  • The Iraqi army, backed by popular forces, has retaken two key areas in the city of Fallujah from Daesh. Earlier, the terrorists killed at least 30 Iraqi civilians trying to flee Fallujah. Tens of thousands of civilians are trapped in the city. Fallujah fell to Daesh in 2014.

  • Gunmen affiliated with the Daesh terrorist group have attacked an administrative headquarters in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, killing at least 6 police officers. Six more officers were wounded. Meanwhile, fifteen militants lost their lives and seven others sustained injuries in the battle that followed.

  • Air France pilots have started a four-day strike over the government-proposed labor reforms. The pilots’ walk-out threatens to hamper travel for fans attending the 2016 European soccer championship in France.

  • A strike by hundreds of pilots in Sweden over their wages and working conditions has led to the cancelation of domestic and European flights of the SAS Airlines. The pilots are demanding contracts that ensure greater job security as well as a 3.5 percent pay raise.

  • The Israeli military has demolished the home of a Palestinian man in the West Bank village of Yatta. The house belonged to the family of Morad Bader Abdullah Adais who is currently held in Israeli detention. He is accused of killing an Israeli female settler.

  • The French Foreign Minister has warned that Israel’s ban on Palestinian entry can result in the escalation of tensions in the occupied territories. Israel revoked 83,000 entry permits for Palestinians following Wednesday’s shooting in Tel Aviv that left four dead and several others injured.

  • Brazil’s suspended President Dilma Rousseff says she'll hold a referendum on early elections if she survives removal from office in an impeachment trial in August. Back in May, the Senate voted to put Rousseff on trial for allegedly breaking budget laws.
