Venezuela edged closer to the Copa America Centenario quarterfinals after a shocking 1-nil win over Uruguay at the Lincoln Financial Field, in the US state of Pennsylvania.
Underdogs Venezuela were the better side from the onset and opened the scoring late in the first half, as Jose Salomon Rondon capitalized on a rebound, after Alejandro Guerra’s midfield shot struck the cross bar.
Uruguay came out firing in the 2nd half, but failed to put a shot on target, despite numerous attempts.
Venezuela won their first two matches and lead Group C with 6 points. Uruguay are now knocked out of the tournament after Mexico beat Jamaica 2-0 in the late match.
