- The Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution says the US is not abiding by its commitments under the nuclear deal known as the JCPOA. Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei also called the US, Britain and Israel the arch-enemies of Iran. He made the remarks in a ceremony marking the 27th departure anniversary of Imam Khomeini.
- Bahrainis have staged a protest in the village of Diraz calling for the release of all political prisoners especially al-Wefaq leader Sheikh Ali Salman. The protesters are also furious over a court decision that more than doubled Slaman’s jail term for allegedly inciting violence.
- Amnesty International has urged the EU to halt plans to return asylum-seekers to Turkey. The rights body has called the plans illegal and reckless because refugees don't have access to quote- effective protction in Turkey. Amnesty says Turkey lacks the capacity to process asylum applications and is not a safe third country.
- Turkey's Constitutional Court has rejected a petition filed by opposition lawmakers against a legislation that strips MPs of their legal immunity. Last month, the parliament approved a bill stripping lawmakers of their immunity from prosecution allowing the trials of 138 legislators who face terror-related charges.
- The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the army is advancing toward the Daesh-held province of Raqqah in a new offensive. Reports say Syrian forces approached Raqqah provincial boundary amid Russian airstrikes on eastern parts of Hama province.
- Severe floods have killed at least 10 people in Germany. Officials say search operations are underway for possible survivors as many are still missing. In France, at least two people died and more than twenty-five thousand others are still without power in the wake of heavy rains and flooding.
- Hundreds of people have gone missing after a boat carrying refugees capsized off the Greek island of Crete. Greek search and rescue teams have managed to save at least 340 refugees. Only nine bodies have been recovered so far.
