Millions of Muslims have gathered in the holy city of Karbala to celebrate the birth of the 12th Shia Imam.

Despite the bloodshed and violence ripping through Iraq, millions have gathered in the holy city of Karbala to mark the birth of the 12th and the last Shia Imam. The celebration comes amid tight security measures and on the heels of a surge of terror attacks and chaos in the capital Baghdad and areas west and north of Iraq.
