The Iranian national women’s futsal team has finished its campaign at the 6th edition of International Futsal Tournament for Women National Teams in Russia, and landed in the third place at the end of the four-nation tournament.
On Sunday, Iranian sportswomen edged past the Polish contingent 2-0 in a highly competitive third-place match played in the Russian capital city of Moscow.
Sara Shirbeigi and Sepideh Zarrinrad were the futsal players, who volleyed the ball past Poland’s goalkeeper and earned Iran’s hard-fought victory.
“Iranian players could gain practical experience following their first two fixtures, and played with more whim and vigor against Poland as a European futsal powerhouse. Constant presence in international tournaments and major event could be rewarding indeed,” Mahnaz Hatami, manager of Iran women’s national futsal team, said after the match.
The Iranian futsal team slumped to Spain 5-0 in its opening match of Russia tournament on May 6, and suffered a 0-4 loss from Russia the following day.
