- Thousands of people have protested in Greece’s capital Athens against the government's austerity measures. The protest comes ahead of a parliamentary vote on a pension and tax reform bill. Greece has taken a series of austerity measures required under a bailout deal with its international creditors.
- Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have rallied against the Israel blockade. The march was triggered by the death of three children in a house fire started by a candle. Gaza is facing long hours of power cuts, as its sole power plant has been forced to shut down due to fuel shortages.
- The Iraqi army continues its offensive to liberate Fallujah in the western Anbar province from Daesh terrorists. The city has been under the army’s siege for the past three months. Iraqi troops have in recent days advanced towards Fallujah on western and southern fronts.
- Daesh terrorist group has claimed responsibility for an attack against Egyptian police south of Cairo. Eight officers were killed after armed men sprayed their van with automatic rifle fire in the city of Helwan. This is the deadliest attack since Daesh terrorists killed four policemen in Cairo last November.

- London's new Muslim mayor has accused the British prime minister of trying to smear his reputation during the election campaign. Sadiq Khan said David Cameron tried to link him to Islamic extremists to reduce his public support. He also likened Cameron's rhetoric to that of US presidential hopeful Donald Trump.
- Activists have rallied in Spain’s capital Madrid to protest what they called the government’s attack on freedom of speech. They were angry at the so-called ‘gag law’ that allows hefty fines for unauthorized protests, as well as for filming or taking photos of police officers.
- Canada says a monster wildfire raging in Alberta’s main oil sands city of Fort McMurray has now doubled in size. Officials say the raging inferno, that has spread to an area bigger than London, remains out of control. The fire has already forced the evacuation of the entire city of Fort McMurray.
