American aerospace manufacturer SpaceX has successfully landed its Falcon Nine rocket on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean after delivering a Japanese satellite into space.

The rocket took off from Cape Canaveral, Florida on Friday while carrying the telecommunications satellite JCSAT-14. SpaceX is looking to perfect the technique of safely returning rocket parts to earth for re-use, instead of crashing into the sea or burning up in the atmosphere.

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket is seen launching from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in this photo taken at Port Canaveral on Friday, May 6, 2016.

In that case, making a trip to space will be much cheaper. The JCSAT-14 will provide services for broadcast networks and Internet connectivity for maritime and aviation units in Asia, Russia, Oceania, and the Pacific Islands region.

This latest touchdown is the second successful attempt in the company's history with the first being done in April.
