Junior Iranian chess player Masoud Mosadeghpour has featured praiseworthy performances at Asian Junior Open & Girls Chess Championships 2016 in India, and stood on the top of the podium in the sporting event.
The International Master (IM) participated in the rapid-play contests at Hotel Park Plaza in New Delhi on Tuesday, and lifted the trophy with an overall score of 8 points following nine compelling rounds.
Indian Grandmaster (GM) Aravindh Chithambaram finished vice champion to receive the silver medal with 7.5 points.
Sunilduth Lyna Narayanan, another Grandmaster from the host nation, collected 6.5 points to claim the third position.
Meanwhile, Indian Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Ramesh Babu Vaishali racked up 9 points to be named the champion in the girls’ rapid section.
Mongolia’s Uurtsaikh Uuriintuya came second and Indian Bala Kannamma P finished in the third place with 7 and 6.5 points respectively.
Asian Junior Open & Girls Chess Championships 2016 started in New Delhi, India, on May 3, and will finish on May 11.
A total of 103 players from 12 different countries, including Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, are participating in the nine-day-long event.
The contestants are vying for the top honor in rapid, standard and blitz formats.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Chess Federation has dispatched a 4-strong delegation to the event, which comprises Masoud Mosadeghpour, Seyed Khalil Mousavi, Nima Javanbakht and Vesal Hamedinia.
