Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton leads billionaire Donald Trump in a national poll as the real estate mogul’s favorability seems to be growing among GOPers.
According to a new NBC News/SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll released on Tuesday, as of May 1, the former first lady had a 43-percent support from registered voters in a theoretical match-up, a figure that stands at 37 for her Republican rival.
Trump, however, has narrowed the gap on the Democratic front-runner and appears as a better contender to face Clinton compared to Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
A theoretical match-up between the two shows that 44 percent of the voters support Clinton and only 30 percent back Cruz.
The online poll was conducted of 14,640 adults aged 18 and over, including 12,462 registered voters, from April 25 to May 1.
Trump’s favorability, meanwhile, went up six points among Republican and Republican-leaning voters, standing at 56 percent, his highest yet.
Cruz had only 22 percent support, which shows a four-percent decrease, while Ohio Governor John Kasich showed a three-percent fall with support standing at 14 percent.
“As the primary season winds down, Trump has gained more support from Republican leadership, and Trump's spike appears to be a sign that Republicans are beginning to rally together to support the front-runner,” NBC News said in its report covering the poll.
