The Iranian girls’ national junior soccer team has finished third in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-14 Girls’ Regional Championship for the South and Central zone.

The Iranian outfit ended its campaign at the sporting event on Sunday as it swept away the hosts 7-0 in a third-place game staged in the Tajik capital city of Dushanbe.

The Persians started the game with vim and vigor, and Roghayeh Jalalnasab opened the scoring 13 minutes into the match. A minute later, Maryam Mohammadi seized a perfect chance to put the ball into the back of the net and double Iran’s lead.

Jalalnasab scored her second goal of the day in the 34th minute, putting Iran 3-0 ahead.

More than half an hour later, Bahar Sirous sailed the ball into the back of Tajikistan’s net and nailed the fourth goal for the Iranian contingent in the 65th minutes.

In the 70th minute, Iran’s Sirous and her compatriot Aynaz Haqverdi had two marvelous opportunities, which they perfectly grasped and scored their team’s fifth and sixth goals.

Mohammadi’s brace in the 72th minute was the last straw that broke the back of the Tajik team.

Iran’s girls’ national junior soccer team sustained a narrow 3-4 loss from India in a semi-final match on Saturday, and settled for the third-place game.

Maral Torkaman, Maryam Mohammadi, Roghayeh Jalalnasab scored for Iran in the 22nd, 25th and 32nd minutes.

Indian soccer players Sunita Munda (9th and 11th minute) and Susmita Tanty (43rd and 57th minute) scored a brace each.
