Two killed, one injured in southeast France shooting

At least two people have been killed and one seriously injured in a shooting near a primary school in southeast France.

The incident took place near the Jean Racine school in the Teisseire district of Grenoble city at 10:00 a.m. local time on Monday.

The gunman is reportedly on the run and police began an investigation into the incident.

According to local officials, the victims were men and one of them died at the scene while the other one died from a heart attack. The third man is receiving treatment in a hospital.

Police said all the three men were from Grenoble and that the dead men were “known” to the authorities.

They also said the incident was unlikely to be a terror attack, but an act of “revenge” related to gang activities in the area.

Last year, a man beheaded his boss at an American factory in Grenoble and then displayed a flag belonging to Daesh militants.

A state of emergency was imposed in France after attacks on November 13, 2015 in which 130 people lost their lives and 350 others sustained injuries. The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group claimed responsibility for the assaults.

The state of emergency was extended by the parliament in February for a further three months to May 26.
