Iranian student chess players have put a convincing end to their campaign at the 14th edition of the World University Chess Championship in the United Arab Emirates, finishing third in the international sporting event.
On Friday evening and the final day of the contests in Abu Dhabi, Payame Noor University (PNU) outfit, which was representing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the week-long tournament, racked up 18.5 points to claim the third place.
Russia was named the top-ranked football team in the world with 19 points. Armenians collected 19 points to claim the second position.
Polish and Chinese student chess players followed Persians in the fourth and fifth spots respectively.
The 14th edition of the World University Chess Championship in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, on April 8, and finished on April 15.
